Stata Labs Purchased By Yahoo

Ensuring that the battle for email supremacy continues, Stata Labs, makers of searchable email client Bloomba, has announced that Yahoo has purchased their company.

This makes the second utility capable of searching email associated with the web portal, the first being the Plaxo Toolbar, which enables users to search Outlook using Yahoo technology.

According to an announcement that appeared on Stata's web site, the acquisition was completed to "provide Yahoo! with exceptional technological expertise and strategic assets." Could this mean that a Yahoo email client is on its way, or like Andy Beal suggests, "could Yahoo be strengthening its products to go head-to-head with Google?" As of now, there has been no word from Yahoo discussing their goals for the Stata line of software.
