MSN Set To Launch Search Services

On Thursday, November 11, Microsoft is preparing to launch their search presence to the public… again. A version of their search engine has been available on search.msn.com and on their sandbox site for some time now. This "release" is expected to be a media blitz that will announce MSN Search to the general public.

Evidently, this version will feature search results powered by their own algorithm, instead of utilizing Overture/Yahoo's index, according to multiple sources. According to Danny Sullivan, the search function is expected to either be in a beta format or it may actually appear on the Microsoft Search address.

In an article that appeared in The New York Times, it is believed that "Microsoft will stress the size and completeness of its service, according to several people with knowledge of the announcement." As indicated earlier, a working version of MSN's search technology has been already been made available. However, many feel this launch will be the way of informing those who don't follow the industry as closely, as well as integrating their new technology into their current engine.

Although, some feel the launch will be another facelift of their current search engine that uses Overture/Yahoo results. With thanks to Jason Dowdell, another theory concerning MSN Search has also surfaced. Are they spidering Google's results to populate their own?
